NuWeld History

In 1996, NuWeld began as T & M Welding in the garage of Tim and Marilyn Satterfield’s home, repairing garbage dumpsters and building a grain hopper that almost didn’t fit out through the garage doors. After many phone calls and visits to area companies, T & M Welding began work for a company based outside of New Berlin, PA, producing aircraft fuel line parts for Piper, small parts for United Defense, and Aero Space parts, and soon after worked on bridge beams. T & M Welding’s business grew, and on September 1, 1997, T & M Welding changed its name and became incorporated as NuWeld.

NuWeld continued to work small jobs from the summer of 1998 through the spring of 2001. In 2001, NuWeld received its first “major” contract with a company based in Washington, D.C. to work a large tunnel project 700 feet under the Occoquan River. In April 2002, NuWeld left its humble garage and moved into a small job shop on Nichols Place in Williamsport, PA and rapidly outgrew that facility.

In March of 2003, after purchasing 9.15 acres along Route 14 in Trout Run, PA, operating from a 14,000 sq. ft. shop and a double-wide office trailer, NuWeld quickly grew from 8 employees to 39 among the shop, field, and office; resulting in having to add an additional office trailer for Engineering and Quality Control staff needed to perform nuclear work awarded for a project located in Richland, Washington.

When a local manufacturing facility closed its doors in 2003, NuWeld hired many of those employees; creating more jobs in the Lycoming County area while growing as a direct result of their abilities and expertise. In 2005, NuWeld became a local unionized shop (Local 520) to meet the workforce demands significant in completing awarded projects safely and on-time.

NuWeld has worked several projects throughout the United States, including Arkansas, Kansas, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Virginia and Washington DC., which also included turnkey projects for the Pentagon. NuWeld has also fabricated commercial power components internationally for customers in Russia and Peru.

NuWeld holds certifications “S” and “U” stamps from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and “NB” and “R” certifications from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors all for the construction and repairs of pressure vessels. NuWeld’s QA/QC program meets the strict criteria of ASME I & VIII and ASME NQA-1.

NuWeld is also currently working in the natural gas industry throughout Northcentral PA, welding & installing flow lines, miscellaneous piping & supports, launchers & receivers, and retrofitting GPUs to customers’ requirements.

In late 2011, NuWeld expanded its operations and relocated into a 211,000 square foot manufacturing facility located in the industrial center of Williamsport, PA.
